The March 13, 2018, chapter meeting will be a visit to Omega Protein. The physical address is 610 Menhaden Rd., Reedville, VA. Omega will be providing lunch, a presentation and tour of their facility. Lunch and presentation will begin at 12:30. Please arrive a little early.
This is the first in an informative series, highlighting Northern Neck industries and their impact on the environment and its inhabitants.
The Reedville operations of Omega Protein are involved in the “wild-capture” fishing and reduction (i.e., processing) of forage fish - principally Atlantic menhaden - to create nutritional, specialty oils and protein products. Omega Protein was acquired in December 2017 by Cooke Inc. a Canadian company. The Cooke family of companies with more than 6,000 employees includes global aquaculture “farm-capture” with salmon farming operations in Atlantic Canada, the United States, Chile and Scotland as well as seabass and seabream farming operations in Spain. Aquaculture operations include land-based juvenile production, marine farms, processing and distribution facilities.
Remember, this is for our chapter members only.
