A few years ago my neighbor looked at my fledgling meadow and said, “I think I’ll throw out a few seeds, too.” I nodded, inwardly saying: “Is he nuts?”
Attention all potential meadow makers:
This is the perfect time of year to go through seed catalogues and fantasize about your spring meadow.
To get you started, below are some places to buy seeds. Not all of the seeds are native to the Northern Neck. For more information on our natives refer to NNNPS.org.
I hope that all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving and are clearing out spaces for your 2018 meadow.
First steps, as I mentioned at the last meeting, are to gather resources — books, links and how-tos. Do you have favorites? If so, send them along to me and I will compile them.
A cadre of master naturalists can be trained to assist with meadow creation and maintenance. Initial research will include a study of literature as well as projects in the area about meadow creation, upkeep and maintenance.
